The Oakland Heritage Festival is held the last Saturday of October each year in Speer Park in Oakland. The 2012 date is October 27.

Water Improvements
Currently, the Town of Oakland is installing new water meters that will be state-of-the art. The new meters utilize utilize Automatic Meter Infrastructure that transmit water readings from the meter to a collection point at Town Hall. This technology has several advantages including:
- Elimination of Town Staff doing monthly walk by or drive by recording
- Better monitoring of use
- Online ability for residents to monitor and adjust their own water use
- Elimination of the need for Backflow Preventers on individual homes (this greatly reduces the cost to residents)
- Ability to identify leaks
Along with the new meters, the Town has installed new water accounting and billing software. This new software will allow more options for billing and provides more internal controls for financial accountability. It is fully compatible with the Town’s new financial software.
