 Water Services

Oakland has a municipal water system that serves the Town and some surrounding areas.

Water rates

$13.50 - 5000 gallons minimum charge
$2.71 - each additional 1000 gallons

Irrigation is $2.71 per 1,000 gallons

Rates for non-resident services are 1.5 times the above.

Water bills also include fees for garbage collection($16.50), fire and rescue ($18.00), street lights ($3.00), and a 10% utility tax.

Meters are usually read around the 25th or 26th of each month.  Bills are sent out on the 1st of the month, and may be paid by mail or in person at Town Hall.  (The Town does have a debit  system in place.  There is a drop box on the north side of the Town Square and on the side door of Town Hall.

PAYMENTS ARE DUE ON THE 10th of EACH MONTH, CONSIDERED LATE 11th
SHUT OFFS ARE PERFORMED ON THE 21st of EACH MONTH. PLEASE PLAN
ACCORDINGLY. For more detailed information Town Code WATER PAYMENT & SHUTOFF.doc

A note about our water rates: Please note that you will likely experience water bills higher in Oakland than what you are accustomed to paying.  The reason for this is two-fold: 1) high water rates were necessary at the time of financing for construction of our water system.  A small number of customers multiplied by the average per household consumption multiplied by the water rate yielded the projected revenue available to pay the debt service. 2) since that time, we've gained population, but are unable to lower our rates due to water availability concerns of the St. John's River Water Management District.  The District is aggressively pushing local water utilities to adopt higher water rates to encourage (or force) water conservation.  The Town is fortunate that we don't have to go through the painful exercise of raising our rates, because they are already relatively high, but we also are in no position to lower them.

Please check your irrigation system frequently.

Make sure you are only watering twice a week on your scheduled Zone days and the correct times.

Make sure you do not have broken heads that are spraying a column of water in the air while you are sleeping.  You should check the St. John's River Water Management District's website for "water wise" landscaping tips at: <http://sjr.state.fl.us/programs/outreach/conservation/landscape/toc.html>
